Malcolm and Melanie Rands started ecostore 18 years ago, in a permaculture eco-village in New Zealand. They got expert help to create a range of plant-based cleaning and body care products without all the nasty chemicals.
People started using ecostore products and loved how well they worked and how much better they felt.
18 years on ecostore formulates and manufactures more than 100 different products in their own eco-accredited (Diamond Enviromark, ISO 14001) factory in Auckland.
The ecostore range, including household cleaners, baby care and body care items is now available in Woolworths supermarkets and health stores throughout Australia. ecostore provides meaningful employment for more than forty hardworking and dedicated people and most importantly; the company has managed to keep their values at the forefront of what is still, at its heart, a family business.

We think it makes sense to reduce harsh chemicals from our lives. Our products are free of some of the nastier ones, which have been linked to allergies such as eczema and dermatitis and are known in some cases to affect the immune system.

Greening up at home doesn't mean you need to compromise on product performance. ecostore products are independently proven to work as well as or better than leading supermarket brands.
Value for money
It’s a challenge to create affordable products using the best ingredients available but we found a way around this by super concentrating products like our laundry powder which means a little goes a long way.

5 tips to a greener home
Here are a few simple ideas that may help you live a healthier, more environmentally sound home life. These are just a starter - you’ll get lots more ideas and news by registering for our email updates.
Reduce
A ten-minute shower uses about 100L of water, which in an average family household, quickly adds up. Cut down the time you spend in the shower by using a shower timer, or cut down on energy consumption and water usage by fitting a Low Flow shower head.
Reuse
Spend a little more on a purchase that lasts much longer. For instance, try using stainless steel water bottles which are designed to last a lifetime. Plastic water bottles are a huge rubbish problem worldwide, requiring an immense amount of energy to produce a single one.
Rethink
We need to get smarter about using water, a vital resource. By switching to plant-based cleaning products, like ecostore's, you can re-use the wastewater from your washing machine for your garden.
Respect
We are all connected to Nature. Treat the world around your home and work place as you would treat yourself and your family. Look for the healthiest choices. What is healthy for you is usually healthy for your environment. Make life simple.
Recycle
Use your power as a consumer and citizen and make sure the containers you buy are truly recyclable. Are the plastics in the containers all the same type so the recycling depot can deal with them? Ask your favourite brands to clean up their act. Ask your local council what other products they can recycle.
